My african cichld has a swollen abdomen and colon. I am not sure what to do.?
He hasn't eaten anything in about three days, and his colon is getting more and more swollen. The other fish seem to be leaving him alone, but it looks like its getting worse. What can I do to treat this?
What KIND of African? Just saying African only helps a little bit meaning it rules out South Americans and you know odds are it's a mouth brooder, and you need a high PH and hardness. That's about all it tells you saying African. You really need to know the species before you can narrow down things.
My off the top of my head guess based on this limited input, is Malawi Bloat. You probably have a herbivoric fish, and it's been eating too much protien which is harder to digest for your fish and this is leading to the swelling. I'd reccomend, even if you have carnivoric fish, use a Spiralina coated flake food. Try posting some pictures as well.
